1971 saw the 23rd production and just the second time the Society had produced "Patience".
In the Souvenir Programme our then President, Geoffrey Greenwood noted that "the theme of the opera was too topical to survive when first produced in 1881, but if you substitute pop groups, pseudo-intellectuals or other present day idols for the poets Bunthorne and Grosvenor, and substitute fan clubs, and followers of fashion for the love-sick maidens, then Gilbert's theme is as relevant to 1971 as it was 90 years ago". He would have enjoyed our 1996 production which used the pop group analogy to great effect.
